Scanniello, Giuseppe
Prof. Giuseppe Scanniello is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Salerno, Italy. He received his Laurea degree in Computer Science in 2001 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2005 from the University of Salerno, and previously served as Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Basilicata. He has obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification for Full Professor in Computer Science.
His research focuses primarily on empirical Software Engineering, with particular emphasis on the empirical evaluation of software development practices, tools, techniques, and processes. His work has employed a broad range of empirical methods, including controlled experiments, surveys, qualitative studies, longitudinal cohort studies, and mining software repositories, addressing topics such as software testing, test-driven development, software comprehension, software quality, and software maintenance and evolution.
In recent years, his research has also focused on software supply chains and Software Bills of Materials (SBOMs). He coordinated the MSR4SBOM project (Mining Software Repositories for Enhanced Software Bills of Materials), investigating how empirical evidence and software repository mining can support the understanding and improvement of SBOMs. His current work extends this research to AI supply chains and AI Bills of Materials (AIBOMs), including their adoption, accuracy, completeness, and the development and empirical evaluation of tools for their generation and enhancement.
Prof. Scanniello has served on the program committees of several major international Software Engineering conferences, including ICSE, ASE, ICSME, ESEM, and ICPC, and is a member of the editorial and review boards of international Software Engineering journals (e.g., TOSEM, EMSE, JSS).
