Overview
Blockchain, despite its origin as the underlying infrastructure for value transfer in the era of cryptocurrency, has been touted as the main disruptive force in modern businesses. Blockchain is embedded with the capability to chronologically capture and store transactional data in a standardized and tamper-proof format that is transparent to all stakeholders involved in the transaction. This in turn has prompted companies to rethink pre-existing business practices, thereby yielding a myriad of fascinating business models anchored on blockchain. This seminar is intended to introduce emerging trends in research and practice on blockchain. The seminar will be divided into two phases. The first phase will review extant literature on blockchain as well as discuss opportunities and challenges for future research on the phenomenon. In the second phase, contemporary blockchain-enabled business models will be presented together with more in-depth analysis of the implications of these business models on risk and control as well as on the broader ecosystem and path dependencies among stakeholders for conventional value chains.
Assignment
To gain two credit units for the seminar, you are expected to deliver a reflective learning diary of no more than 1,000 words. For the reflective learning diary, you should critically reflect on what has been covered during the seminar, especially in relation to what you already knew about blockchain. The purpose of the learning diary is to organize and internalize your own line of thought. Consequently, the learning diary should not be a summary of the content of the seminar. To aid you in writing the learning diary, you can perhaps reflect on the questions below:
(1) What did I know about blockchain before the seminar?
(2) What did I learn about blockchain from the seminar that was new to me?
(3) What did I learn about blockchain from the seminar that surprised me?
(4) Did I learn something from the seminar that changed the way I think about blockchain?
(5) Did I learn something from the seminar that prompted me to have new research ideas about blockchain?
(6) Did I learn something from the seminar that I can apply to my own research, be it blockchain or otherwise?
(7) Did I learn something from the seminar that inspired me to rethink my own research, be it blockchain or otherwise?
(8) Is there something from the seminar that I cannot comprehend and why?
Please email the learning diaries to Chee-Wee Tan at ct.digi@cbs.dk by Saturday [August 31st, 2019].
