Overview

In the current technology environment we are able to accurately locate a person within a few feet using powerful GPS technologies.  This has been continuously opening up tremendous opportunities for vendors to offer multitude of services to customers.  Customers in embracing this type of LBS have been accommodating these services by compromising on the privacy.

The opportunities available for organizations who have the capability to custom deliver LBS to customers with data mining and fine segmentation is unbounded.  The challenge is to clearly identify where to put efforts in terms of technologies, strategies and services.

Although there is more research on this on practitioner side there is also significant research from the academic side.  In this mini-course we will discuss state of the area of LBS from academic and practitioner side and identify potential areas for research and study.
