SUMMARY:Performance Evaluation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems
DESCRIPTION:Performance evaluation of computer and telecommunication s
ystems has become an increasingly important issue given their general
pervasiveness. Evaluating of computer systems and networks is needed
at every stage in the life cycle of a computer system\, including its
 design\, manufacturing\, sale/purchase\, use\, upgrade\, tuning\, etc.
A performance evaluation is required when a computer system designer
wants to compare alternative designs and find the optimum and most cos
t-effective one. There is no point in designing and implementing a new
computer system that does not have performance that can not compete w
ith an existing system in the market. Performance Evaluation is also n
eeded when a computer center manager wants to compare a number of syst
ems and decides which one is best for a given set of applications. Per
formance evaluation of existing system is also important since it help
s to determine how well it is performing and whether any improvements
or tuning (capacity planning) are needed in order to enhance its perfo
rmance.\nThe objective of this tutorial is to provide an up-to-date tr
eatment of the fundamental techniques and algorithms of computer and t
elecommunications systems performance modeling\, simulation and measur
ement. Special emphasis will be given to discrete event simulation. Th
e application of these techniques will be demonstrated by case studies
  and examples.
